Fifteen welcomes the Class of 2007 to MIT Sloan. You are about to embark on one of the most difficult and rewarding journeys of your life. The Core will become a force in your life with which to be reckoned. Despite the daily barrage of problem sets, recruiting events, and team meetings, we encourage you to do your best to have fun both inside and outside the classroom.

The fact that the entire class of 2006 is back should be testament to the fact that you will indeed make it through the semester.

Fifteen also welcomes back the second years. After returning from a summer back in the "real" world, we have one more year to soak up the amazing educational and social activities that MIT Sloan creates for its students.

Whether through G-lab or on a trek, travel to distant places is a rich part of the Sloan experience. We have one more year before heading back to that real world, so let's make the best of it.

Going out into the world is indeed a daunting task. The images from New Orleans and the Gulf Coast troubled a nation that is clearly not ready to handle disasters, whether natural or manmade.

Business must both look internally at its own disaster readiness, but also outwardly to the economic ecosystems in which they operate. Disaster preparedness is a problem for all sectors: private, public and non-profit. Likewise, caring for the victims is a shared responsibility. We commend the outpouring of support from business, but hope that the private sectors stays engaged on issues of disaster preparedness and the extreme poverty that was evident in those left behind in New Orleans.

Within our own community, Sloanies have responded with compassion and charity. We thank the leaders of this effort to organize the Sloan community for good in a time of great national tragedy.

Whether reporting on Sloan's disaster response or on a top notch Sloan-sponsored conference, Fifteen is ready to serve this community in our second full academic year in operation. We will strive to bring you a mix of fun and serious coverage.

We encourage you to join us in this relatively new endeavor of providing a forum to express ideas and report on the happening of our world at Sloan and beyond.
