Monaghan is definitely a busy man on campus, as he is an elected Senator, Chairperson of the CDO committee, as well as responsible for the adMIT weekend festivities. But this does not stop him from traversing the Infinite Corridor in search of the perfect body. Brendan can be found most days working out at the center with sets that last over two hours.
The focus of a Sloanie knows no bounds in its quest for greatness. In fact, Brendan's award at the Z-Center states that he was inspired by fitness gurus Tony Robbins and Tony Little. Undoubtedly, the Tony's have yet to see the full effect of their motivational energies in the hands of students who proudly proclaim the industrious beaver as their mascot.
Eye of the Tiger
Many might ask, "How did this quest to prove Sloan mettle begin?"
In January 2005, Monaghan and his brother-in-law made New Year's resolutions to get in shape and lose weight. A rigorous Slimfast diet ensued that showed immediate effects.
After returning to campus from a summer internship at Citigroup in New York, Brendan had lost 25 pounds; a fact not lost on the record number of female first years but best summarized by a member of the CDO staff, who wished to remain anonymous, when she said, "my husband is hot stuff."
Diet included Shakes and Burgers
There are reports of the athletic center icon supplementing his Slimfast diet with nightly In N' Out burger binges. During the Silicon Valley Tech Trek, students talked of Monaghan craving two burgers and a dessert shake on a nightly basis. Fifteen has confirmed that Monaghan visited the California establishment at least daily during his six day tour of the valley. His roommate, Tom Cornely, a second year student from France, believed Monaghan was, "on some type of crazy California diet" that Cornely had never seen before. Core team members are quick to rush to Monaghan's defense noting that wearing heels requires strength and agility that supplements alone cannot deliver. A fact supported by baseball stars Jose Canseco, Rafael Palmeiro and Barry Bonds.
Controversy Over Decision
Not all Sloanies agreed with the Z-Center's choice. Dae Hong '06 of the Caribbean Water-skiers, who edged Monaghan's core team in the First Year Challenge finals, was disappointed that he himself could not bring Main Campus glory for Sloan. Said Hong, "I am really jealous."
