The More Things Change....

Things Don't Seem So Bad the Morning After - As graduation nears and spring is in the air, many economists have started seeing "green shoots" in the economy. Although the macroeconomic environment is not visibly improving, it appears that the rate of decline is itself declining. Coming back from the brink of the worst economic situation of our generation, this is somewhat reassuring.
May You (Not) Live in Interesting Times - Enough said. No wonder the inverse is an old Chinese curse.
Talent Will Always Shine Through - The past few months have witnessed the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Companies are going out of business, people are losing their jobs, and the economic forecast is up for debate at times on an hourly basis. Although it has been tricky to get a job or an internship, it should probably be much more difficult due to the economic environment. While it is noted that success has been forthcoming as a result of tremendous effort in some cases, Sloanies are still landing jobs and internships! The jobs some of us are getting might not have been top choices but yet, our talents are desired by someone, somewhere, even while the Dow has lost nearly half its value.
And, on a completely unrelated note, we at Fifteen want to send our thanks and congratulate the Class of 2009 on surviving two years at MIT Sloan. Your mentoring has been much appreciated, and you all have provided a wellspring of guidance, support, and advice to us in the Class of 2010 many times. In particular, we'd like to thank the 2007-2008 Editors in Chief: Sandy Lin, Ting Huang, and Sarah O'Brien for showing us the ropes of the newspaper biz, and John Marcus, Jorge Camargo, Chuka Ikokwu, Taariq Lewis, Samantha Joseph, Avi Kaufman, Malaika Thorne, Basmaa Ali, Anju Mathew, Stacey Defino, Aaron Zucker, Rahul Kitchlu, and Saad Fazil for your contributions over the past semester.
Congratulations Class of 2009, and best of luck!
