It's here, it's here! It's finally here. The much-anticipated X-Men Origins: Wolverine, that is. With a May 1st release date, the movie, arguably the most anticipated movie of the year, has thus far earned a respectable $90.5 million at the Box Office as of May 4th. You can probably imagine the headlines saying 'Wolverine claws his way to the top of the box office'. So is the hype worth it? In a nutshell, yes!

Gavin Hood, who surprisingly has only a couple of directorial stints on his resume, brings a lot of maturity to the direction of this movie. It was said that Hood's initial final product was so dark that Lethal Weapon director, Richard Donner, was hired to come lighten-up the script and "PG13" it up just a little bit more.

The movie never gets slow at any moment, unlike some of the previous X-Men films. It does such a magnificent job of character development that despite the brevity of the characters scenes (e.g. Ryan Reynolds's Wade, or Taylor Kitsch's' Gambit), we still leave the theater with a good sense of who these characters were. Now enter Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth. Considering that he had to gain 60 pounds for the role, Schreiber gives such life to his Sabretooth that this character is arguably the most well developed character of the movie. Liev does an excellent job in portraying his mutant as fearless, ruthless, and humorous, and he's easily the must see of this more-than-a-popcorn-flick flick.

In Wolverine, there's a little something for everyone. In other words, there's enough romance and action. I'm not suggesting you go see this movie only because there was a scene which they shot in my home country (they even spoke my native language in the scene) that really excited me. Apparently, Adamantium, the metal that is melded to Wolverine's bones, is found in my hometown, in Nigeria. I suggest you go see it because well-done movies like this don't hit the theaters too often.

By the way, for those of you who had seen the leaked version of Wolverine online, the in-theatre version contains fifteen minutes of additional footage Plus there are no green screens in this one.
Fox has attested that if Wolverine did well at the box office, an X-Men Origins: Magneto would be in the making. So with that said, it looks like it's time to get to work. Start your summer holidays - before hitting that internship or full-time position, or neither - by entertaining yourself with the help of Hugh Jackman. Hey, after all the work this semester, we all deserve it.

Oh, and by the way, for the true X-Men fans, stay until the credits are over to catch the bonus scene.
