This year the Senate is picking up right where it left off last spring, with a lot of energy and new ideas, but with the same commitment to improving MIT Sloan. You're all probably aware that Senate elections recently took place with extremely tight races in each ocean, with some of the elections coming down to one vote. The class of 2011 has shown tremendous participation and we're all looking forward to tackling this year together.

The Senate just held its kick-off meeting on Tuesday, October 6th, with 34 new Senators representing 2011, LGO, Sloan Fellows, MFIN, MSMS. This year we will be aligning new Senators with a project based on their own interests. Our Senate Committee vice presidents have worked hard prioritizing their projects after spending time last year getting to know the issues that affect their committee and determining which areas that the Senate could have the most impact.

Some of these new projects include helping the admissions office create the "Sloan on the Road" video, electronic announcement boards throughout E-51, continued improvement of Sloanpoint and club websites, developing our cross-campus relationships and many more.

The Senate is the place for change - we work on all sorts of projects and initiatives to help improve the MIT Sloan community, and we work closely with administrators to make sure that student voices are heard and that administration has a channel to provide feedback.

The Senate is also responsible for hosting Town Hall once a month in conjunction with the SAO. Town Hall is really a forum for the community to report on what is happening on campus and to gather students, faculty, and administration together around important community topics. Our focus is on transparency and action.

So, please join us in our weekly meetings to listen or to offer ideas or suggestions. Senate meetings are held weekly on Tuesdays at lunch in E51-151. If you want to know more about what is going on in the Senate, or if you would ever like to join us for a meeting, please email us at senateofficers@sloan.mit.edu to express interest.

We welcome feedback and ideas that can be submitted to www.tinyurl.com/ideadrive.
