I thought about where a murderer would go to store a murder weapon. They wouldn't go far and they'd need supplies to clean up the mess they'd made. The solution was obvious. I dashed out to the hallway and sure enough there was a utility closet not fifty feet away. My heart pounded as I flung open the door but to my disappointment all the cleaning supplies had been removed. There was a sink inside but it was spotless. If there had been any proof here, it was gone now.
Still determined to look for anything that might be a clue I got on my hands and knees and examined the floor. It was then that I heard a familiar voice call "Alexjandro?" from behind. Salina, I nearly screamed I was so surprised. I quickly turned around and standing behind me were Peter Calloway and Alexis Tian, two of my fellow Mallards and suspects.
Peter smiled, as he always does, and asked what I was doing. I lied and said I'd seen a mouse and was wondering where it had gone. He laughed in his deep baritone and offered me a hand up. I stared at that hand for a few moments before accepting it. Drew had cost Peter a photography contract. Peter took his work seriously, seriously enough to kill for it.
Alexis, on the other hand, was practically glowing. When I got to my feet, she hugged me tightly without provocation. I flinched thinking I was being attacked but was relieved when she let go and was grinning from ear to ear.
Alexis was normally the most calm and composed people I've ever met. Whatever had happened must have been huge for this display. Seeing my confusion she explained that she had been appointed to the MIT Sloan Senate. With Drew's departure and vacated position, it fell to the runner up in the race which had been her. I knew she loved the thrill of politics and had hoped to use her position on the Senate to push agendas both on campus and in her professional career. Drew had destroyed that goal but now she was back on track. A man was dead and Alexis couldn't be happier.
